1 Kings 19:1-4; 13-16; 19-21

1. Serve him: 2 Kings 3:11 (Elisha washed the hands of Elijah)

2. Obey him: Eph 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord (sf), for this is right. 2 Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), 3 so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. 1 Kings 19:19-21 Elisha followed Elijah immediately after being called.

3. Honor him: (Give him the respect due him) Mal 1:6a A son honors his father and a servant his master. 2 Ki 2:12 Elisha cried My father, my father when the whirlwind took Elijah

4. Imitate him: 1 Cor 4: 15-16 though you have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for I have begotten you in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 16 Therefore I beseech you, be imitators of me. At Jordan he followed what his father had done 2 Kings 2:8;14

5. Be a son for life (be rooted so that you may flourish) 1 John 2:19 They left us, but they were not part of us, for if they had been part of us, they would have stayed with us. Their leaving made it clear that none of them was really part of us. 2 Ki 2:2;4;6 I will not leave you (Ruth)

7. Believe him: 2 Chronicles 20:20 "Have faith in the LORD your God and you'll be established! Have faith in his prophets and you'll succeed!" 1 Ki 19:20-21 Elisha burnt bridges as he followed Elijah.

8. Defend him: (Peter) John 18:10 Talk good about him. Cover his nakedness Gen 9:21-27 (flaws, errors, weaknesses)

9. Support him: Exo 17:10-13 (Aaron and Hur) Carry their burden. Be the implementer of their vision (shoulders)

10. Give him gifts: 1 Sam 9 Bring them something (sacrifice)
