Many people have been left devastated and confused as the government embarked on the destruction of all illegal structures in and around Harare.
WHAT TO DO WHEN THINGS GO WRONG – The Christian’s Response To Government Destructions |
I can feel the pain that many people are going through.
Last night I went through the shopping center in my neighborhood
and I was surprised to see that there was not even one illegal market stall. The
entire place was wiped clean in the recent crackdown. However, one question
went through my mind, “How will all those vendors survive?”
I began thinking about all the people I knew whose source of
livelihood was vending in such areas. Some of them are my close relatives,
friends and church-mates. I knew all wasn’t well for them and this prompted me to
go through the scriptures to see a Godly response to such a crisis.
Many-a-times when we face challenges we respond in the wrong
way, but that’s human nature. We murmur and complain, and shift blame on
everything, including God. However, we ought not to follow human nature. We need
to ask the Master Strategist which course of action we ought to take.
Here are a few things we ought to do when things go wrong:
1. REMEMBER WHAT GOD PROMISED YOU! The Bible is filled with
promises God made to us and you see, God doesn’t lie. What He said will
certainly come to pass in due season. However, you may get tested before the
fulfillment of the promise. Remember what Joseph went through before the realization
of the promises God made to him in his youth.
2. REMEMBER THAT GOD IS YOUR ULTIMATE SOURCE NOT YOUR JOB!
Your job is simply an avenue God is used to supply you with all your needs.
Remember how God fed Elijah with ravens during a time of famine. Remember, too,
how He supplied the Israelites in the wilderness. If one door closes, God is
able to open for you a better door.
3. MAYBE IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO GO LEGIT. Pray for grace to legalize
your business. Pray that God will elevate you into owning a licensed shop. God
is a big God. Nothing is too hard for Him. You may not need a big shop now but to
rent a small space within a shop. Consider teaming up with a few like-minded
people and do a joint-venture.
4. NO MATTER WHAT, DON’T TURN YOUR BACK ON GOD. He has not
forsaken you. Keep the faith. He will see you through. He hasn’t brought you
this far to destroy you. This shall pass. Turning your back on God won’t solve
a thing. It aggravates it as you will have nowhere safe to run too. God loves
you all the time.
Scripture: But now,
says the Lord your God, and your life-giver… “When you go through the waters, I
will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not go over you: when you
go through the fire, you will not be burned; and the flame will have no power
over you. For I am the Lord your God…” Isaiah 43:1-3
